Patricia Healey passed away in February 2021, after contracting COVID-19 while already battling Alzheimer’s. Her death devastated Engelbert, who had cared for her at their Los Angeles home until the very end.
In a heartfelt message to fans, he wrote: “Our hearts are broken, but my darling is now in the arms of the angels. I was blessed to hold her hand as she left this world. She was my whole life.”
He later revealed that before she passed, they shared one last moment of connection. He sang softly to her, as he had countless times before, and for a brief instant, she opened her eyes and looked at him. “It was as if she remembered everything,” he said quietly. “That was our final goodbye.”
A Legacy of Love
Today, Engelbert continues to perform, carrying Patricia’s memory with him wherever he goes. In interviews, he often dedicates songs to her and speaks of her with tenderness. “She’s still with me,” he says. “Every note I sing, she’s in it.”
Their marriage — spanning more than 56 years — remains one of the great enduring love stories in music. It was not without trials, but it was built on faith, loyalty, and an unbreakable bond.
